Hypatia (c.350-370 – 415 A.D.) was an Alexandrian philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician. She was a respected teacher of philosophy and astronomy in Alexandria and was a prominent thinker of the Neoplatonic school. She is known to have edited book III of Ptolemy’s Almagest. In the 20th century, Hypatia’s legacy became an icon for women’s rights.
